Jeremy I like how you got it completely wrong! The point is, if there's a choice between candidate A and candidate B, if you've preferenced neither of them, you have no say in which of them gets elected.
Dave was saying, hypothetically say, the count is down to One Nation and Motoring enthusiasts. Even if you're 35th preference is for one of those parties, your vote will still be counted in that contest

Sounds like you guys could do with some mathematical analysis of the voting system as it is. What above v below is and its effects, what vote exhaustion means in either context, that sort of thing.

I am no expert mathemetician but I am an interested amateur and beside the maths, I am fairly sure I understand the actual aust laws as they stand right now wrt this. Think (insert respected political commentator here who has never been a politician). Would you like me to take a swing?

I continue to tear my beard at the inability of people who should know better to understand the PR/STV system and to find the wonkettes almost as ignorant is very chastening indeed.
FFS, if you can count above 10 without removing your shoes then you ought to be able to understand our very fair & relatively proportional voting.
Unwillingly, I was converted to MME by ... was it Jeremy or Dave..? they merge & mingle in my memory.

Great pod guys.

Early voted today and this podcast really made me debate whether to follow the Dave (exhaust) route or Jeremy (fully complete) route.

Went for the Jeremy version because:

1) It’s my first election. As a Brit migrant I’m a bit giddy at - a) having an elected upper house and b) having to use a better system than first past the post

2) As a political geek I enjoy the democratic ability to “grade” my loathing between the different RWNJ parties. Living in SA – this gave me the ability to put Bernardi dead last – yes even below the other loons – and put the rest of the Libs above said loons.

3) I quite enjoy the idea of a poor election counter cursing me as they take my ballot around the count 64 times…………

Yaay democracy!!

Anyway – keep up the good work gents. Great stuff.

PS - I'm on the multi-member electorate bandwagon as well. Although mention of it seems to be like when Zaltzmann does a pun run on the Bugle...........
