I am sad to see PP ending, but happy to see it replaced with something wonky. I would like some help. Just finished reading Ken McGregor's article in the Advertiser:
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/carbon-tax-wipes-out-handouts-to-seniors/story-e6frea6u-1226411536828
The third paragraph reads: "Average utility bills are set to rise by $665 from July 1 - dwarfing the Federal Government's compensation to pensioners of $250 for singles and $380 for couples."
The problem that I have is that I cannot find the research anywhere. The closest I have found is an "average cost of living impact" of $665 for someone earning $120000 pa. in the govt's Clean Energy Future fact booklet. If McGregor is referring to this then it is highly dishonest on two counts: first, it is not a utility bill increase but a total cost impact; second, the average pension is not $120000 pa. Equating the two is an exercise in deception.
If someone could steer me to either the appropriate research, or to how to ask McGregor for his sources/how to complain to McGregor, It would be appreciated.
I'm inspired. I won't be paying my rates to my local council if they KEEP STUFFING UP how they keep the suburb clean. I'M NOT PAYING!!!!!! Grrrrrr ....
Fantastic pocast guys, more than lived up to the expectations left by PPP.
Your point of industrial media though, even with the collapse of the tabloid and press media, there is still the huge industry of broadcasting which in many cases is just as bad. But because of the nature of the advertising which it carries its going to take a lot more to shut them down than it has in the case of the newspaper giants.
I do agree with Dave though, with the coming generation I'm certain that we'll see nothing other than the full collapse of the print media, at least on a large scale.
Then again, only time will tell.
Great first cast guys! Have you thought about turning this into a Youtube channel. It would be great for highlighting TV stuff and also putting in visual tabs for each of your topics for the cast.
Crap. I just finished listening to it. You mean I have to wait ANOTHER WEEK?!?!?!
Great first effort, hope you can find some appropriate music links to add polish to future podcasts!
errr, all i can find of a podcast is a 1.2mb introduction - is that all?
AR, you can download episode one from the link at the end of this post, or if you look in the iTunes store you should be able to find it there. Perhaps you need to refresh manually in iTunes?
Heh. John Anderson. Back in the early 000's I heard the expression "G.I. John". I was told he'd achieved some kind of Icon status, and the GI didn't stand for Government Issue. I wonder if he felt tortured by that (it got the impression that it was a topic of discussion around the office). He did once say the silliest thing I've ever heard on radio, though - back before one of the elections he was giving a talk to some heartlanders and somebody chucked a question at him about sex abuse in churches. He declared (with some MFEDs) that it was all caused by the loosening of morals that happened in the 60's. Mmmm. Yeah. Right. Personally I think it was just that the loosening of respect for authority in the 60's led people to actually _report_ it. Either way I guess it was the 60's fault. The 50's must have been truly awesome.
And Mr Denmore sounds exactly how I would have imagined he sounds like, based on the picture on his blog :-)
Dammit. I wanted to find a video to the "having a sick day" song to do a dedication, but I can't find it. It's roughly late-80's, early 90's and the chorus starts with
Having a sick day
Having a sick day
Yeah, I've saved this day for me ...
Do crickets have bones?
I've been waiting for one of you to point that out. In my defence, they don't talk or generally act as consciences either.
True. They do wear little blue top hats tho. Really they do.
Crickets have exoskeletons, so Jiminy must be one crook little conscience-surrogate.
Rock on, guys, looking forward to the next instalment.
Good to see the same old buggers here.
We're going to adopt a commenting policy which is
- on topic (related to specific parts of the podcast)
- no assertions about living people
- no being a dickhead.
I'll delete off-topic posts for now, but we'll set up a more formal system shortly.
We're not planning to recreate the PP open threads here. (Although I gather Jules has set up a forum elsewhere to do that, linked to in the last open thread.)
I hope they'll be articles published on 'Something Wonky' in addition to the PodCast.
Enjoyed the first podcast gentlemen. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
Oh, jeremy, you're such a totalitarian :-)
Don't see Prometheus - well OK then but only to get the parodies :)
